Happy Christmas

I just want to wish all my readers a happy festive season and to thank them for the support they have given me throughout 2008.

At this time of year things get hectic and it can be hard to keep focused. But I am dutifully combing through the copy-edited manuscript of the Sequel to The Russian Concubine - (to be called The Concubine's Secret in the UK and The Girl from Junchow in the US) - while I chop chestnuts with one hand and dangle chocolates on the tree with the other. Already plans are pouring in for 2009 - a new book cover being designed, a tour of the UK in February, a research schedule and, of course, a new book to write. As if I could forget that!

But times ahead are looking tough for 2009 in every part of the world, so I hope we can all find respite in the books that give us pleasure.

Happy reading and happy Christmas.

Why has the book Uner A Blood Red sky also have another title The Red Scarf?? My daughter sent me the first one for my birthday and the other for Christmas ordered from amazon.

Hi Juliarose,
I'm so sorry you have been caught by the two titles - I have repeated again and again on my website that these two titles are the same book but Amazon insists on marketing them as different ones. Unfortunately, though my publisher has registered a complaint with them, Amazon has done nothing about changing their marketing policy. The reason for the two titles is that my American publisher and my UK publisher could not agree on a title, and so have each published the book with a different cover and title. This would not normally matter and used to be quite common, but with the advent of Amazon things have changed because readers can now access books from all parts of the world. When my next book comes out in 2009, the sequel to The Russian Concubine, the same thing will happen - two different titles. So I warn you now that it will be called The Girl from Junchow in the USA and The Concubine's Secret in the UK. I apologise again for the confusion but hope you did enjoy the book. Happy New Year to you.

Merry Christmas!
I just wanted to say that yesterday i was randomly browsing through my waterstones, and i saw "The Russiam Concubine" on the shelf. And when i read the blurb, i had to have it.
It's absolutely fantastic! I was up until 3.30am reading it, and it's been a while since i've found such an addictive book. I can't wait to read all your other work!
Have a very happy new year!

Hi The Jakins,

Great to hear you enjoyed The Russian Concubine. I also love the way historical fiction whisks us away to a different world - and we can learn to much from it. Happy New Year to you and I wish you good reading in 2009.

Hi Anonymous 30 December,
Thanks for your comments. I love to hear of readers getting so involved with Lydia and Chang they can't bear to leave them. It warms an author's heart. Hope you enjoy Under a Blood Red Sky/The Red Scarf but be aware that these two titles are the same book, one in UK and one in US.

Heya!
I just wanted to say how fantastic The Russian Concubine is. I love forbidden romance stories, and yours was absolutely perfect, because it was so much more. Normally I'm dissapointed with the ending as it either sucks, or one of them dies. And even though Chang and Lydia were sperated at the end. I felt incredibly satisfied, and i can't wait too read the sequeal (which i'm going too buy after my exams are over; i know if i buy it now, my revision will be put aside lol.)
i hope you have a fantastic new year, you definately deserved one.

Hi Veronique,
It's great that you loved The Russian Concubine. It's very satisfying for an author to know her characters are deeply resonating with readers. The sequel will be published this summer - The Girl from Junchow (US title)/ The Concubine's Secret (UK title). Good luck with your exams.

Hi FanGirl,
That's what libraries are for - to make books available to all, a wonderful institution. In the UK I give a lot of talks to library groups and I love their enthusiasm for books. Enjoy The Russian Concubine. Happy new year to you.
